 We almost lost Orian

Sunday evening started with dinner at the inlaws on our way home I get a call from a strange number it was Orian telling me he had been in a bike accident & I need to speak to this uncle, I freaked out & passed the phone to DH. We were just 5 minutes away from the accident scene. I am sure the car had not even come to a compete stop when I jumped out to find my boy.

There he was sitting trying to bandage himself up as he had his first Aid kit with him. One of the witnesses was a paramedic & took over from him & started to patch him up he looked ok so the paramedic left. Orian sat in our car having a smoke when he started to go into shock, I called his boss & told him to get our ambulance out as Orian had been injured & was going into shock, we were very lucky as another paramedic stoped & stared to treat him, when our ambulance got there we had him on a spine board & neck brace. While I took him to hospital DH waited for the cops.

What happened was that Orian was on his way to join us at his grand parents he was a bout 2 minutes away from there house. A drunk driver decided to do an illegal U-turn, Orian could not stop his bike in time & ended up slaming in to the side of the bakkie(truck) his head went through the side window. The drivers car license had expired & his car was not licensed....

We took him trough to the nearest hospitalhospital which is a private one hoping that our medical aid would cover the costs as we are on a general waiting preiod which ends at the end of June, they stabelised him but then we were informed that the medical aid refuse to cover the expense & we have to move him to a state hospital. The sad thing was as soon as the the hospital figured out they were not going to make money out of us they stoped assisting us & we had to get him back into our ambulance on our own with out their help. Luckily a few of Orians first aid buddies arrieved as soon as they heard he was in the hospital so we had them helping. The hospital gave us a transfer paper & off we went to the state hosipital. I was strangely surprised at the level of service we got from them as they are usually very pathetic but then there 2 first aiders & me who in the trauma unit I was not supposed to be there but no one said a word. After 3 hours lying on the spine board Orian was bitching that it was killing him they took stax of xrays & even sent him back for a second set of his neck.

I am happy to say that his neck only has stiff muscles his hand has a few nasty grazes, he has pulled ligaments in his knee & also has soft tissue injuries on his leg, he has 5 stitches on his knee as the wound was all the way down to the bone. All in all the kid is ok & ALIVE

DH did not let me see the accident picture until yesterday afternoon this was the only time I figured out how close I was to loosing my baby boy.

It took the cops over 2 hours to get to the accident scene.

 Thief posts back loot

I had to post this i find it so funny

Thief posts back loot
27/05/2008 22:30 - (SA)

Nicolize van der Walt, Beeld

Klerksdorp - There is such a thing as a considerate car thief - one who will spare no effort to return the contents of your car to you.

All you have to do is pay for most of the postage.

Hein K¨hn, a sales manager at Hi-Fi Corporation in Klerksdorp, just laughs as he tells of the amazing events of the past week.

Three years ago, when K¨hn and his family were still living in Kempton Park on the East Rand, thieves stole his car, which he had bought only three weeks previously and which had a full tank of petrol, at a sports event.

The insurance company paid off only the debt on the car.

K¨hn said: "We bought the Jetta from an old man in Newcastle. We were driving an Uno at that stage and had saved for a long time for a deposit to be able to buy a family car.

"We were so excited about the new car. On the day of the theft, my son had taken part in an athletics competition at Jeugland High School, where a total of eight cars were stolen that day."

The police apparently investigated a case of vehicle theft, but never found the Jetta.

The K¨hns moved from the East Rand to Klerksdorp in March this year, but were keeping their old postal address in Kempton Park until the end of the year.

Friends were picking up their post once a week and keeping it for them.

K¨hn said: "Last weekend, our friends phoned and said there was a slip for a registered package.

Surprise, surprise!

"Last year, my wife and I were regional winners of the Shoprite-Checkers boerewors competition. We thought perhaps it was new entry forms with a complimentary apron or something.

"We had to pay in R10.30 because there weren't enough stamps on the envelope."

He asked his friend to pick up the parcel and open it.

To their astonishment, the envelope contained items that had been in the car when it was stolen, including family photos, K¨hn's matric and college certificates, postal items and even unopened letters.

K¨hn said: "All the things had been in the car and in my briefcase.

"My briefcase, my child's takkies and a cricket bat were still missing, but the parcel, which didn't have a sender's address or stamp, contained all the other goods.

K¨hn said: "It's amazing. Where have the things been for the past three years and how did they get to me?"

He was grateful for the thieves' (or thief's) thoughtfulness, but had a message for them: "I'll wait another three years, no problem.

"Can't you send back my car then?"

 Kewl Injuries

Hi all there is not much news really, the teenager in need will be getting food hampers form the school & they are waiting to see it child welfare has taken the complaint seriously.

Orian has bee working his butt off & has had some “kewl” injuries …. His words not mine, his one “kewl” injury was on Saturday morning. He was taking a friend to work (first aid) when they noticed a guy bleeding next to the road anyway they stopped to offer assistance, the cops were there but at first were not very helpful until Orian shoed his flashes (he was not in uniform as it was supposed to be his day off) anyway once the cops saw he was a first aide they allowed him to help the guy, this guy had been mugged & was beaten over the head with his own golf club. He has a hole in is skull & yellow stuff was coming out. Any way Orian strapped the guy up & stayed with him till the ambulance arrived. The guy told Orian that one of his attackers came back & apologized ….

Yes Orian’s idea of kewl is the messier it is the kewler the injury.

 Advise needed- HELP!

I am sitting here trying to figure out what is the correct way to handles this problem…& right now I have no clue.

The problem is a young 16 year old girl who is well behaved listens to the rules of her house hold & even abides by them when she is not at home for example she is not allowed to play computer games so when she comes over to visit she does not play & believe me there is more than enough temptation in our house as all the men in my house are PC gamers.

At the moment the child is broken yesterday she had to pull her mother & grandmother apart they were in a fist fight. There is many a time when her mother disappears & leaves her to look after your younger sibling with next to nothing in the house to eat. This young lady is work on weekends to pay for food for her siblings. Most of these weekends she has no idea where her mother is as when she tries to call her the mobile is off. Her aunt has reported the family to child welfare saying that the kids are neglected, now the aunt does have a vested interest in the situation as she is married to her sisters ex husband who is the father of the 2 younger siblings…. (sounds like something out of a soap opera) & as many of you know I have no trust in the system.

The situation has gotten to the point where I have been contacted by outsiders who are worried this girl is suicidal

I am fully aware that there are 2 sides to every story & that teenagers are a force to be reckoned with.

My 1st instinct is to protect this child as she should be a kid & not have to deal with the responsibilities of feeding & looking after her younger siblings. Yes I have the space & the heart to let her move in with us but in the end this does not address the root of the problem.

My 2nd instinct is not to get involved

So here is the question WHAT THE HELL DO I DO?
