An Update on Benny and Tommy

Dear Friends

Benjamin went into surgery at 2pm this afternoon. The doctors had to removed all the burned skin, cleanse and treat all the wounds. They were wonderful; many of the staff members contributed their share at a reduced cost. It was an agonizing 3 hour operation and he was transferred immediately to ICU so we haven’t even seen him yet.

Tommy has spent the afternoon with us here at the hospital because he needed his dressings changed – we have loaded a picture for those of you who asked to know how Tommy had fared in all this.

Poor boys – they are both trying to be so brave!

Zoe will stay in ICU with Benjamin tonight – he is not very heavily sedated and needs some comfort.

Thank you to each and every one of you for the messages of support and love you have sent. Thank you too for each donation being made – we appreciate your generosity and hope that each expense will be covered at the end of this long journey.

This is an urgent plea from THEA

Our beloved Benjamin was badly burned last night in an unfortunate accident on the TLC farm.



His face, trunk, the back of his head and left arm have been badly damaged. He will undergo emergency surgery this morning which, at this stage, looks like it will be on-going.

Those of you who are in touch with prayer chains … please get as many of those with hot-lines to heaven onto this emergency. The deepest part of my heart is praying … but my anxiety levels are really interfering right now.

Because of a problem with his Birth Certificate Benjamin is not on our family medical insurance and is not covered for hospital treatment. In South Africa, no insurance, no hospital. Except a really frot, unhygienic one which is just NOT an option for my boy.

He is in a private medical clinic (Mulbarton Hospital) which requires a huge cash deposit and continual settlement of fees incurred on an ongoing basis because they know that we have no insurance. The doctors think he will need to be here until after Christmas!
We are appealing to all our friends to please help us cover some of these expenses by wiring money to the TLC main account – details of the account are already on the website. We have hundreds of friends all over the world and I know that we can rely on you. If those of you who can … can just give R1,000 each ($100 or €100) we will come through this.

For now I am clearing out my English account to start with – it was always intended for emergencies such as this. Thank God we have that, because we have no money in our normal account. The timing of this was very bad!!!

For our English friends, you can start topping that up. I am going to speak to my bank manager this morning so that he will let me draw immediately and not wait the usual time for clearance.

People like Jane Morison and local friends have already started to respond … but on their own this will not be enough.

Please help us, dear friends. This is the most serious accident to have happened at TLC - EVER – Benjamin needs your help! This is every parent’s worst nightmare. My heart is broken to see my sweet angel in such agony … my precious, gentle little Ben!

We are going to post a picture of Ben, perhaps you can make an appeal to family and friends. You are free to use this picture to help. You are free to DO ANYTHING that will bring in the help we need. If I could peel my skin off and give it to him … I would … gladly!!! But I can’t. The only thing I can do is find the money, somehow, to bring him through this.

Incidentally, Tommy has been discharged but needs to come back to the hospital for ongoing treatment. His face and arm are also burnt but he is not in as bad a situation as Benjamin is.

Well the office looks like a bomb went off in it as we are currently renovating it. SOmehow we have managed to loose our dsl connection 2twice in 3 days, have lost our network & have telephone extensions that are not working...Oh Joy The paint we choose is a lot darker than expected but hopefully it will go with the carpets & not look too bad.

GB turned 1 on Friday, am not expecting to see him this weekend as his mother is at her bosses house for the weekend... Monday is a public holiday so we will see if we can get arrange to see him then.

Vj's final year results are supposed to be out today. I think the poor kid is worried. I know I am. Next year is going to be a tough one I hope he really gets down & works his butt off. Am going to try get his school work ASAP as I need him to start.

My cat which has been missing for a month came home. I honestly though she was dead...I am a very happy kitty mommy at the moment.

Dh playing Guildwars while kitten watches

There is not much to report, we started sorting out the play room & so far have ripped out 2 lots of carpets, tis a very yucky job these carpers must have come in with noah's ark. Work is going to be hell for the next few weeks as we are re doing out offices "oh Joy" I will be taking pics of this transformation.... hope u are all doing well. Huggles
